Salad is not the only Option

On many occasions I am looking for something to eat in Puerto Rico which for a vegetarian is a difficult task.

Then someone either a client, co-worker, waiter, or anyone neat me will make the suggestion I have become to literally hate.

“Why Don’t You Eat a Salad”

I have nothing against salad I seem to enjoy it when it is accompanied by other things. I remember when I worked in New York City I could visit great salad bars that would create salads with so many ingredients. At that time I was not vegetarian I would enjoy going for a salad with my co-workers.

Sadly in Puerto Rico salad turns out to be mostly two options the house salad (tomato, cheese, and lettuce) or a Ceasar’s salad (which is not vegetarian given the anchovies that go into the worceister sauce).

So in most occasions I have only one option which as you see may not be the most attractive to eat everything you are eating out.

I have found few places which I will include in future posts that provide vegetarian options for me when I am away from home. Thankfully I don’t have to eat salad all the time.

So if you are not vegetarian and you meet someone that is please don’t offer them salad as the only option to eat.

What are other things that are offered to you to eat that annoy you?

LoL! Hubby took me to a Puerto Rican restaurant a few years ago… other than the Side Salad…. they said the only thing they had for me was WHITE RICE! So while he had his Bistek con cebollas… I had the SaLaD (then I went home and had my meal). We never went there again.

My partner and I went to a restaurant called El Platanal. The main ingredient used in all dishes was plantain. They had no vegetarian option at a place where the star of the dish is a vegetable. My partner did not drink water, eat the bread, or even had a soft drink at the place. The waiter was rude and obviously did not understand the word vegetarian. He said they had salad and chicken. We don’t recommend the place at all.
