Anti-VegLatino Ads – An Idiot & 27 Latin Lovers

I have seen one too many commercials that I find very misleading and borderline offensive. I think in this day and age it is critical that people call out those that are misinforming others to make a profit.

I think it would be great if we could take some TV food advertisements and look at what is behind them. Analyze them from the message they sent to what they are really offering. It would be great if a few of you join in and recommend future commercials to review.

Being that I am vegetarian I am not a fan of Tuna. As a kid in Kindergarten, I remember my cousin Joel who sat next to me and every day brought smelly Tuna as his lunch. It got to the point that I started eating Tuna as an adult but as a kid just the smell of tuna would keep me away from it.

Watching TV, I found a TV spot with a lady who apparently is making Tuna for Latin Dancers, who the idiot on the commercial calls Latin Lovers. Just the fact of putting a Latino stereotype with an item that is not vegetarian makes my blood boil.

I would say that I find the commercial highly offensive and without much value to me as a Latino male.

Just to let others know, I don’t dance salsa. There are many other Latinos like me that grew up listening to Cafe Ta Cuba, Fabulosos Cadillacs, Enanitos Verdes, Skapulario, No Doubt, Anthrax, Molotov, and AC/DC.

Maybe that is why I find the commercial so offensive. I can’t identify with it and I am not sure that the fact that this lady is stating how beneficial tuna is, can be called accurate. Especially if the tuna comes from the Atlantic with high mercury levels.

I would prefer to see some commercials on how Tuna is actually brought to your table. Then maybe people would think twice before eating it.

What do you think of the commercial?

Any other commercials you find are misleading and borderline offensive?
