For years I have been visiting Disney as a Vegan. Last year I got a recommendation that I had to stop over at Trail's End, a Buffet Style Restaurant at Fort Wilderness Campground. The Vegdisney group mentioned how Chef TJ was going to create a unique vegan experience for me.
Disney Multi-Course Vegan Meals
Chef TJ is known for his Multi-course Vegan Meals. So on my last trip to Disney in September, I made sure I stopped at Trail's End on the first day and our first dinner.
As much as others had shared their stories of the experience, I don't think I had an idea of what was awaiting us in this meal experience.
Most Memorable Vegan Disney Dining Experience
Chef TJ created a memorable experience. He also exceeded the high expectations set for him. I will never forget that particular meal at Trail's end.
When I arrived I let the servers and host of Trail's end know I was Vegan. For those of you that have not been to Disney as a Vegan, they will mention the term Allergy. As a precaution they stamp the word on the ticket print out that is placed on top of the table. The card helps other staff members at the restaurant know you are Vegan (or have an allergy). It's a safety precaution Disney puts in place.
The server mentioned the Chef would be out in a few minutes to go over the Buffet area. I have been through this routine many times and every chef handles it differently.
Meeting Chef TJ
A few moments later out walks the most energetic and happy Chef I have met ever.
I was lucky enough to be at Trail's End on a night that the most famous Chef for Vegans at Disney was working.
Chef TJ walked me through the buffet showed me a few options that were vegan. He asked me a few questions, and I made the mistake of actually eating some of those items off the Buffet.
Many Vegan Courses and a Delicious Dessert
I was not expecting Chef TJ to pull out a full 5+ course meal and the most memorable dessert I have seen ever.
Chef TJ walked back and a few minutes later came back with the first plate.
Chef TJ kept on bringing Vegan dishes out until it got to the point that I could not eat more. At that point, we had been sitting at Trail's End for a couple of hours.
Every other buffet restaurant makes you feel rushed. Chef TJ reminded me of visiting family. Those family events where they serve a lot of food and you are expected to stay longer and eat a lot.
Lot's of Delicious Goodies
On the second to last dish, I put up the white flag and told Chef TJ that I could not eat anymore. It was our first day at Disney, and we flew in with some delays. My five-year-old daughter was getting impatient because she was also tired.
He mentioned that he would pack the last plate for me to take back to my room because he was already preparing it for me. He asked us to please wait because he wanted to bring us a Vegan dessert.
As Chef TJ approached the table, my daughter was in awe of what appeared to be three towers of Vegan Sweets. Vegan Ice Cream Sandwich stacked on kabob sticks topped with cotton candy.
When Chef TJ put the plate on top of the table, my daughter forgot she was tired. She kept staring at this delicious sweet piece of culinary art that happened to be vegan.
As I left, I thanked the staff and Chef TJ for his hospitality and their culinary creations. Eating Chef TJ's meal has to be the most memorable eating experience at a buffet anywhere, even at Walt Disney World.
I can't wait to visit Chef TJ on one of my next visits.
Next time, I am going to make sure I don't touch anything on the buffet. I want to make space for Chef TJ's delicious creations.
I will also make sure to go well rested so we can enjoy the many delicious meal creations that he and his team offer.
What has been your most Memorable Disney Vegan Meal Experience yet?
